Menomonie is designated as a third class municipality. It has a mayor, eleven member city council and planning commission. The corporate city limits is comprised of 8,960 acres of which some 4,700 acres of the corporate limits are undeveloped, 325 in parks. Menomonie is located on manmade Lake Menomin and its 14,055 residents enjoy the recreational advantages of the great Wisconsin outdoors. It boasts many fine community oriented civic, religious and social organizations who continue to help make Menomonie a better place to live for all people.

AGRICULTURE Menomonie is located in Dunn County, one of Wisconsin's top dairy counties. About 11.3% of the work force in Dunn County is employed by agriculture.

AMBULANCE SERVICE Full-time ambulance service operates on 911 service.

AIRPORTS Score Field - Menomonie Airport is owned and operated by the City of Menomonie. Located on the east edge of the city it is integral with the industrial park. Its east-west runway is 4,900'x 75'and north-south runway is 3,470' x 60', both of asphalt. There is also one 3,470' x 60' asphalt runway located 12 miles northwest of the city in Boyceville. Commercial and charter services are available in Eau Claire at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport (25 miles east) and at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (55 miles west). Eau Claire can also handle private prop and jet planes.

BUS SERVICE Greyhound bus service operates out of Menomonie daily and services all parts of the nation.

CHURCHES Twenty-two churches represent most of the major denominations.

CLINICS Served by Red Cedar Clinic/Mayo Health Systems, a full service medical clinic with 20 physicians specializing in family practice, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, internal medicine, psychology and occupational medicine, plus full lab and x-ray facilities and support personnel.

EDUCATION From kindergarten to the university, the city has seven public schools and four parochial schools, a public Middle and Senior High School and the University of Wisconsin-Stout. The highly diversified Chippewa Valley Technical College is part of an 11 -county vocational district that offers district residents nearly 60 full-time career training programs. A family learning center and university owned nursery school also hold full-time programs for youngsters.

ELECTRIC POWER Electric power is supplied by Xcel Energy in the city of Menomonie. Dunn Electric Cooperative supplies the power to the area surrounding Menomonie.

FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS Ten banks and credit unions (Bremer Bank, Citizens State Bank, F & M State Bank, First Bank & Trust, Firstar, M & I Bank, Mutual Savings Bank, Red Cedar Bank, S & C Bank and WESTconsin Credit Union) serve the city of Menomonie and the surrounding area.

FIRE PROTECTION 20 full-time regular firefighters and 20 part-time volunteers ... three pumpers, a snorkel aerial ladder truck and a rescue boat, rescue truck, and two tankers comprise the available equipment. Two brush buggies for rural fires are available. A modern firehouse also offers the latest communications for service to the Dunn County area. The insurance rating for Menomonie is class four.

GAS POWER Natural gas for both domestic and industrial purposes is provided by Xcel Energy. Other types of bottle & LP gas are available in the area.

HIGHWAYS Menomonie is served by Interstate 1-94, state highways 25 and 29, and US Highway 12.

HOSPITAL Mrytle Werth Hospital/Mayo Health Systems, a private, not-for-profit acute care hospital provides medical service for the City of Menomonie. The 63 bed facility located at 2321 Stout Road, Hwy 29 & 12 East, contains 24-hour emergency room, medical/surgical wings, obstetrics dept. and intensive coronary care unit.

LIBRARY Menomonie Public Library serves city and county residents, providing books, periodicals, reference service, and audiovisual items, Programming for pre-scholars through adults is also offered. Library service is also provided by UW-Stout and the public school system.

MOTOR TRUCK LINES There are 20 truck lines that serve Menomonie, 3 terminals are located in Menomonie, providing overnight service to the entire upper Midwest. United Parcel Service and Federal Express service daily to and from Menomonie.

NEWSPAPER The Dunn County News, a twice weekly paper, serves the city and the county. The Dunn County Shopper and Reminder are "shoppers" that serve all of the Dunn County area. Eau Claire and Twin Cities papers also cover Menomonie area news events.

PHYSIOGRAPHY The city occupies more than 13 square miles and is 805 feet above sea level. Menomonie has an average mean temperature of 44 and an annual precipitation of 30 inches.

POPULATION The population of the city was 14,715 as of the 2000 census. Dunn County's population is 38,937.

POLICE The police department consists of 26 full-time sworn policemen, 14 supporting, 24 hour service, 9 squad cars and has combined communications with the county to maintain a modern police network.

ELECTRONIC MEDIA 10,000 watt News/Talk WMEQ 880 AM covers all of Dunn County and much of Western Wisconsin. WMEQ Rock 92.1 FM watts plays classic rock and carries Green Bay Packer broadcasts. WVSS FM is the college radio station and WHWC Wisconsin Public Television Channel 28 is the local PBS outlet. Charter Communications provides cable service in Menomonie. Either cable or a home television antenna will supply you with NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX or PBS programming from Minneapolis/St. Paul, La Crosse, or Eau Claire.

RAILROADS Union Pacific (UP) services the Menomonie area. Reciprocal switching is available. 25 miles of mainline switching. No passenger service is presently available. Canadian National (CN) also services Dunn County.

RED CEDAR STATE TRAIL This 14.5 mile trail, constructed on an old railroad bed, provides outdoor recreation, serving the hiker, biker, walker or, in the winter months, the cross-country skier. The trail follows the Red Cedar River and is beautiful any season of the year. More than 40,000 visitors arrive yearly to use the trail.

RETAILING More than 200 retailers in three retail sales areas.

SANITATION Menomonie's municipal sewage plant has a capacity of 2,800,000 gallons per day. Peak demand of treatment is 1,770,000 gallons per day. Menomonie has a sanitary landfill site and both commercial and residential pickup is handled by private haulers.

SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS Some of the service organizations serving the area are: American Red Cross, American Legion, Beta Sigma Phi, DAV, Dunn County Historical Society, Jaycees, Kiwanis, League of Women Voters, Lions Club, Menomonie Theater Guild, Moose Lodge, Optimist Club, Rotary, Woman's Club and many other church and social/fraternal clubs.

STOCK CAR RACING Stock car racing is held every Friday night at the Dunn County Rec Park at 7:30 p.m. Races begin the first Friday in May and end the last Friday in August.

STOUT TECHNOLOGY PARK A controlled aesthetic business setting for high technology manufacturing and service industries. Park tenants enjoy access to a diverse pool of technical advisers and workers.

TELEPHONES The city is served by Ameritech and 24/7 Telcom.

THEATERS There are two movie theaters with 12 indoor movie screens. There are two live performance theaters: the Mable Tainter Memorial and at UW-Stout.

TRANSPORTATION There is a Door Stop Bus operated for handicapped and aged and taxi services with two cars.

ZONING All industrial and commercial plans must be approved by the Plan Commission and the City Council. Municipalities and townships of Menomonie areas are covered by zoning ordinances. Zoning ordinances, building codes, assessments, licensing and inspections are handled by the City of Menomonie offices.

OTHER PROFESSIONAL SERVICES 17 dentists, 25 attorneys, 11 chiropractors, 5 optometrists, 12 veterinarians, 10 accountants, 2 architectural firms, 2 funeral directors, and 2 ophthalmologists serve the area.

INDUSTRY

The Menomonie Industrial Park is located in the eastern part of the city. The available acreage at the Industrial Park is 400 acres (plus options). The owner of the site is the city of Menomonie. It is zoned and in the city limits. Municipal water and sewer, natural gas, as well as interstate highway, airport and railroad access are available. A comprehensive industrial package is available.
